CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS

This traditional Cape on Indian River looks like it just stepped off the pages of Coastal Living Magazine. Beautifully designed and decorated, almost all the rooms have windows that capture the views of the tidal inlet that separates Lane's Island from Vinalhaven. The bridge between the two islands is in the distance with Carver's Harbor, the main harbor of Vinalhaven, just beyond. The view is quintessential of Vinalhaven's working waterfront with lobsterman's fish shacks down on the water's edge along the inlet. Bring your camera, paints, brushes and easle ... you'll want to capture this view.

The open floor plan in the kitchen, dining and living room allows for interaction between those who cook and those who eat. The view out the kitchen window over the sink will make dishwashing a delightful activity rather than a chore. The large bar area for informal dining also invites those who sit there to participate in meal preparation. The dining room sits in front of a large set of French doors, again looking out over Indian River, which open out onto a deck that spans the entire length of the house. The living room, with fire place, also enjoys the same view. There is a reading room off the kitchen and TV room off the living room. Cherry floors add such richness to the entire space.

The Master bedroom suite just beyond the study/office area has French doors also leading out onto the deck and a cathedral ceiling. There is a king size bed, full bath and massive dresser.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms. One of the rooms has two full beds, separated by a built in desk and dresser area. Across the landing area, the other bedroom has a queen bed with a Jack and Jill full bathroom. Both rooms have full view of the inlet.

There is a bunkhouse to send the kids out to on a rainy day with TV and compact refrigerator.

There is a huge wharf out front on the river. It is a tidal inlet, so there is low water and mudflats at low tide. Keep the tide chart handy if you go out kayaking.

Two car garage, laundry room, gas grill, cable TV, internet ... but really, leave your work at home!
